I found Buddy’s message in this song to be funny but true. The lyrics tell you all that you want to know. I want to listen to this one over and over again and share it with others just to watch them smile. These clever lyrics will have you following along and laughing out loud. Love the old western slowed down vibe to the beginning of this song followed by the faster rhythm. It makes me want to focus on a destination that leads to happier times. Buddy’s vocals took me on a good ol’ countryside ride. This song made me tap my toes and want to get up on that dance floor to do some country dancin’.Ī nice intro sets up the song for taking a trip down the highway. The lyrics and backgound vocals keeps it all on track. I believe that there are many heroes who left a simple life to lay down their life in the battle for freedom.īanjo and fiddle drives the fast train in this song. “A flag for a son” Buddy delivers a personal note on this song to tell the story of a true hero. I was so touched and moved by this song that I had to listen to it several times before moving on.Ī great tribute to all fallen soldiers. “When we get to heaven can I taste the milky way.” I love all of the heartfelt lyrics in this song. This song has a beautiful fiddle opening with several accompaniments and solos.
The chorus tells me look out, be careful and “don’t mess around with any ol’ ramblin’ man.” I did not want those smooth harmonies and chords to stop.
Let this be a warning to all the women, “Don’t give your heart to a ramblin’ man. Come along with me on this journey and let Bluebonnet Highway warm your heart and soul. The added ingredients: banjo, fiddle, background vocals all come together to add the flavor to the songs.
This CD is a fine combination of the “trinity” of great songs: lyrics, vocals and music. I put on Buddy Jewels’ CD Bluebonnet Highway and wow I am blown away by some awesome southern country songs. I love to listen to some good music while cooking. I start chopping up the “trinity” (onions, bell pepper and celery) and adding all the ingredients: a dark roux, shrimp, crabs, and smoked sausage to cook down into a flavorful pot of Gumbo. It’s a cold wintry day and I feel like eating a hot steaming bowl of Louisiana Gumbo.
